Texting is a form of communication that ranks pretty high on my list of preferred forms of communication.  It is firmly sandwiched in-between face-to-face (#1) and email (#3) and, frankly, waaay above the dreaded telephone (#last#last#last).  I prefer texting, mostly because it is a silent and efficient way of transmitting information and often acts as a reminder of things I need to do or follow-up on, since it’s always with me.  Out of all of the ways to convey info, […]

Eat, Pray, Love… and read your email.

When you least expect it, a song — and an email — can change your life , in a way you just didn’t think possible.  4+ years ago, the Three Dog Night song “Shambala” was sent to me in an email (by someone I adore — who still does not know what he did for me) and for some reason (truly, at that time there was no absolutely no rhyme or reason)… it touched a place in my heart I […]

I didn’t mean to hit SEND.

In the early days of email, I got into a lot of trouble.  Mostly, because I sent emails that I did not really mean to.  I was one of the worst offenders of the accidental SEND and REPLY ALL buttons, sending mass communiqués when they should have stayed in their wee safe electronic boxes or in the DELETE pile. For example, I’m sort of sorry about: …outing my boss for having an affair with the elfin-like crystal worshiping girl who […]

You type too much.

In 1960 there was a song that reached #3 on the pop charts: “You Talk Too Much.”  A few years later I was born.  Coincidence?  I think not.  Those were the very same words often spoken in my direction, as adults shook their heads and said, “You talk too much.”  Nearly every report card I had in elementary school had great grades, but contained the words, “She is a delight to have in class, but she talks too much” or […]

TTYL. LOL.

Oh, evil Blackberry!  How you’ve changed the image of man.  I didn’t want to believe it was your fault, but now I see – you have squeezed these wonderful creatures down to distilled bits of byte/bite-sized communiqués.  Wow.  Thanks for that.  Generally speaking, at least in my foreign land, men have never really been known for having intricate, mad skillz in the whole transmission of information department.  Now, condensing things down to a maximum of 140 characters and a minimum […]

Phonephobia

My cellphone provider keeps writing, emailing and calling me telling me that I’m eligible for an upgrade and I don’t want one.  Honestly, if I had my way, I could spend the rest of my life without a phone, except maybe one that dials 911.  No incoming calls.  No outgoing call.   You see, the telephone is an instrument of torture to me.  No, really.  The kind of torture equivalent to the devices used during the Middle Ages, like the […]
